■ About the Health Policy Academy the 15th Session
The Health Policy Academy (HPA) is a public lecture series designed for members of the public interested in learning about health policy. It is offered by HGPI, an independent, non-profit think tank. Since its first session in 2015, the HPA has attracted nearly 400 participants. The Academy provides introductory-level content on health policy through a variety of programs, including lectures examining health policy from different perspectives and opportunities for interaction and discussion among participants with diverse backgrounds.
In recent years, many textbooks and courses on health policy have emerged, making it possible to engage in various exchanges of opinion and access content online. However, because health policy is characterized by diverse stakeholder perspectives, consensus building can be challenging. Nevertheless, health systems ultimately aim to support our health and enable us to live high-quality lives. In line with HGPI’s mission of “Achieving citizen-centered health policy by bringing stakeholders together as an independent thinktank,” we aim to provide participants with an opportunity to look beyond their day-to-day positions, engage with health policy as individuals, and consider its future direction.
The 15th session builds upon the content of the 12th through 14th sessions following the program’s renewal. With the theme “Opening Policy Windows,” the course is now structured around three core pillars: agenda setting, development of policy proposal, and advocacy for social change. The curriculum is designed to address the increasingly complex nature of society and health policy. In addition to lectures, discussions, and group work with students from diverse backgrounds will provide participants with the opportunity to step outside their usual roles and experience the creation of free-flowing ideas and lively debate. These activities provide an opportunity to engage with the thinking necessary for actual policy formation, such as expressing and coordinating differing opinions and forming consensus.
