[Activity Report] Guidance on Promoting Meaningful Involvement for People with Psychosocial or Developmental Disabilities Issued with Cooperation From HGPI (April 22, 2025)
date : 6/20/2025
As a participant in the “Project for Promoting Involvement for People with Psychosocial Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities” led by Porque, the Organization of Persons with Psychosocial Disabilities (and conducted with financial support from the KIRIN Welfare Foundation’s FY2024 KIRIN Power of Welfare Development Program), Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) contributed to the development of the “Guidance on Promoting Involvement of People with Psychosocial or Developmental Disabilities,” one of the deliverables of that project.
The Guidance is based on interviews with ten people living with psychosocial or developmental disabilities and who have previously participated in government meetings, and shares expectations regarding reasonable accommodations when people with psychosocial or developmental disabilities participate in such meetings as well as recommendations on further promoting involvement among these individuals. It also presents reference materials such as checklists on specific accommodations for meetings and other gatherings. These materials can be utilized in a wide range of situations other than government meetings, such as at regional community meetings or in research activities.
HGPI fully supports the aims of this project and has contributed articles on our work and perspectives on meaningful involvement, particularly highlighting activities related to “Japan’s Patient Expert Platform (J-PEP).”
Moving forward, HGPI will continue to collaborate with people in various positions including people living with psychosocial and developmental disabilities and those close to them in the health and welfare policy formulation processes to enhance the meaningful involvement of these parties, to help ensure meaningful involvement is taking place throughout Japan, and to achieve the goal of better healthcare and welfare.
