About Precision Cancer Medicine

“Precision cancer medicine,” in which treatment is tailored to each individual according to cancer characteristics such as genetic mutations, is expected to play an important role in the future.

However, “Precision cancer medicine” is currently limited in the number of medical indications, (a) the number of medical indications for its use is still quite limited; (b) it involves the use of genetic information; and (c) the costs of testing and treatment are often expensive. Due to these characteristics, various issues have arisen in developing personalized cancer care throughout Japan without bias.

HGPI launched the “Project for Considering the Future of Precision Medicine with Industry, Government, Academia, and Civil Society” in the summer of 2021, and generates policy advocacy for future cancer control.
