On Friday, December 23, 2022, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) hosted the third meeting in its “Reexamining Issues and Sharing Opinions on Health Policy in Japan” Media Seminar and Workshop for Promoting Healthcare Reform series.
Over the course of three meetings, we hosted opinion exchange sessions with experts and media representatives with the objective of helping the public gain a correct understanding of the nature of Japan’s current health and social security systems in light of the digitalization of healthcare in the future. Previous meetings featured Mrs. Jacqueline Hoogendam (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, The Netherlands), Professor Shuhei Nomura (School of Medicine, Keio University), and Professor Keita Nishiyama (Institute for Future Initiative, University of Tokyo; former Director-General, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)) who gave presentations on topics including the current circumstances surrounding the digital transformation (DX) of healthcare in Japan and the Netherlands and issues for achieving health system reform in Japan. Together, we deepened discussions on the current state of healthcare DX.
For the third and final installment in this series, we hosted Professor Hiroaki Miyata of the Keio University School of Medicine for a lecture with the theme, “Better Co-Being: A Vision for the Future of Health Systems.” We were joined by Professor Shuhei Nomura and Professor Keita Nishiyama (who spoke at the previous sessions) for the question-and-answer session and workshop following the lecture. Together, we had a lively discussion in which participants and speakers shared insights on behavioral changes among members of the public driven by healthcare DX, bottlenecks for promoting healthcare DX, and other key topics that form the basis of advancing healthcare DX.
We will crystallize points from this event’s discussion, compile them into reference materials, and present those materials at a later date.
