[Event Report] The 13th Healthcare Policy Academy, Lecture 8 —Civil Society and Advocacy— (January 9, 2024)

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) held the 8th lecture of the 13th session of Health Policy Academy (HPA), “Citizenship and Health Policy”.

In this session, Ms. Kyoko Ama, Fellow of HGPI, delivered a lecture on the theme “Civil Society and Advocacy.” Drawing from her work focused on the “effective use of pediatric healthcare,” a central aspect of her activities, she shared insights into how citizens can engage in policy-making, the processes of building consensus, and essential mindsets for advocacy.

At the 13th Health Policy Academy, participants spend approximately six months exploring how to engage with health policy as citizens. The curriculum is structured in steps, from the basics of policy, through theory and analysis, to practical application. Each lecture will feature instructors who are currently active in their respective fields, and participants from diverse backgrounds will engage in discussion. Through group work aimed at creating policy proposals that serve as the final assignment, the program aims to equip participants with the mindset necessary for the actual policy-making process.
