Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) held the 13th meeting of the Comparative Research Group on Local Regulations for Dementia. Based on the concept of, “achieving better coexistence with dementia in the future,” the goal of this group is to examine the ideal structure of local regulations for dementia by examining and comparing the content of existing regulations.
On March 21, 2021, this research group published an interim report and policy recommendations in a document entitled, “Steps Toward Regulations for Dementia That Achieve Citizen-Centered Dementia Policy.”
At our 13th meeting, based on the Dementia Basic Act for an Inclusive Society (or, the Dementia Basic Act) that was enacted on June 14, 2023, we discussed prospects for local regulations for dementia and the future direction of the comparative research group. The Dementia Basic Act obligates prefectural and municipal governments to endeavor to create plans for the promotion of dementia policies, and during this discussion, we exchanged various opinions on prospects for those plans.
