Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) and Designing for Dementia co-hosted the fourth meeting of the Comparative Research Group on Local Regulations for Dementia. The group was formed with the goal of achieving better coexistence with dementia in the future by comparing existing local regulations related to dementia, to examine the content of those regulations, and to consider the ideal procedures for formulating regulations related to dementia.
At the fourth meeting of the Comparative Research Group on Local Regulations for Dementia, we were joined by Saitama Prefectural Assembly Member Mr. Hidetoshi Kira. Mr. Kira spoke about the Saitama Prefecture Regulation for Caregiver Support, which was enacted in March 2020 and was the first regulation of its type enacted in Japan. He shared various perspectives on aspects of regulations that should be emphasized by the research group by explaining that regulation’s background, its significance, and its planning process.
At future meetings of the research group, we plan to hold hearings with multiple municipal governments to ask about existing regulations.
