The AMR Consortium of the Asia Africa Medical Innovation Consortium, for which AMR Alliance Japan (Secretariat: Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI)) serves as the secretariat, discussed innovation needed to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) during the “Agenda4 Innovation” in the 11th NIKKEI FT Communicable Diseases Conference, organized by Nikkei Inc. and co-organized by THE FINANCIAL TIMES LTD.
During the meeting, AMR Consortium Co-Chair Kazuhiro Tateda (Professor, Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Toho University School of Medicine) shared his views on potential innovative solutions to combat AMR, including advancements in the field of drug discovery, vaccine development, bacteriophage therapy, diagnostic methods, approaches utilizing bacterial flora, as well as antibody drugs. He also reflected on the achievements of the AMR Consortium’s activities and policy development on AMR. The pressing need for a pull-type incentive system and the establishment of a drug discovery ecosystem that contributes to infection control measures were also mentioned during the discussion, and participants agreed on its importance and urgency.
