The Health and Global Policy Institute Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Project submitted comments on the OH AMR (The One Health AMR) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) online consultation on AMR.
OH AMR is a partnership established within Horizon Europe, the European commission’s research and innovation framework program. Horizon Europe is also committed to international cooperation in OH AMR and has developed joint research programs around the world, including the EU One Health Action Plan against AMR, the Resolution on EU Action to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance, and the Council Recommendation on Stepping Up EU Actions to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance in a One Health Approach.
The SRIA was developed as a strategic action plan to promote AMR research in the EU, and the purpose of this online consultation was to obtain broad input from national and international organizations involved in AMR.
Key point of the public comments
The impact of AMR is known to be particularly widespread in the Asia-Pacific region, and given that infectious diseases including AMR can cross national borders and spread to other countries, the strengthening of AMR control measures in the Asia-Pacific region will directly lead to improved AMR control measures in the international community. Therefore, the EU should promote AMR control measures in the international community as a whole, including within the EU, by deepening cooperation with stakeholders not only in Western countries but also in the Asia-Pacific region through actively developing joint research projects and disseminating research findings.
It is imperative that each entity would fulfill its commitments to the international community in a comprehensive and integrated manner, based on the fact that infectious disease control cannot be fully implemented by countries acting alone and that each country’s interests are adjacent to those of the entire world.
