On November 24, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Ms. Yui Kohno presented at the symposium “AMR as a Global Health Challenge” at the Joint Congress on Global Health held in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

The Joint Congress on Global Health 2023 was organized by the 64th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Tropical Medicine, the 38th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for International Health and Medicine, the 27th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Travel Medicine, and the 8th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Clinical Medicine under the theme “Towards a Sea of Global Health – Inclusive of Diversity and Richness”. This is the third congress following those in 2017 and 2020.

The presentation titled “AMR as a Global Health Challenge,” addressed the role of antibiotics in non-communicable diseases and the three major infectious diseases (i.e. HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria), the increase in foreign-type resistant bacteria, the innovation needed for antimicrobial drug development, and the importance of international collaboration and multi-stakeholder cooperation in AMR control.
