On July 31 and August 1, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Ms. Yui Kohno presented at the APEC Workshop “Incentives to Bring New Antibiotics to APEC Markets” held in Seattle, USA.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a framework for economic cooperation among 21 countries and regions (called “economies”) in the Asia-Pacific region. The United States will chair APEC in 2023, and various discussions among economies are underway under the theme of “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All”. This workshop was held on the sidelines of the 3rd APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM).
Ms. Kohno’s presentation titled “2024 and Beyond” touched on the importance of international and multi-stakeholder collaboration, the importance of patients and patient engagement, and expectations for the United Nations High-Level Meeting in 2024.
Additionally, she shared HGPI’s perspective on the progress and trends in Japan’s AMR-related policies, including from the G7 Hiroshima Summit, National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance and various incentive mechanisms.
