[In the Media] “Generate Dementia Innovation” (The Nikkei Personal Opinion and Insight, July 7, 2023)

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Senior Manager Mr. Shunichiro Kurita contributed an article to the Nikkei Morning Edition titled “Generate Dementia Innovation.” Mr. Kurita’s contribution was published in the Personal Opinion and Insight column on July 13, 2023.

The Dementia Basic Act for an Inclusive Society was enacted on June 14, 2023 and expectations are high for further progress in domestic dementia policy. However, Japan is still faced by a number of lingering issues, particularly in the area of innovation. Systems for evaluating innovation including through reform of the drug pricing system, a current focus of discussion, are urgently needed. The Dementia Basic Act also mentions encouraging involvement from people living with dementia and their families in research and development and promoting dementia-friendly products and services, so expectations also are high for progress in these areas moving forward.
