On October 12, 2022, Nikkei Asia published an editorial by Mr. Ryoji Noritake, CEO and Board Member of Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) and Mr. Michael W. Hodin, CEO of the Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA), that was written in collaboration between HGPI and GCOA – “Japan must face up to growing danger of drug-resistant germs.”

The editorial addresses the situation of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and related counter-measures in Japan, including four critical action areas to amend the Japan’s 2016-2020 National Action Plan on AMR. They include an establishment of pull-incentives, fostering greater collaboration among stakeholders through organizations like AMR Alliance Japan, a promotion of fundamental infectious disease control by vaccines and related measures, and strengthening testing and surveillance systems from the viewpoint of One Health.
