Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) has organized HGPI Salon for individual supporting members and those interested in health care policy from various fields.
On October 21, 2024, the lecture for the special edition was given by Mr. Yann Ferrisse, Director of Business Development & Partner Engagement, GARDP (Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership).
GARDP is a not-for-profit global health organization driven to protect people from the rise and spread of drug-resistant infections, one of the biggest global health threats. It was set up by the World Health Organization and DNDi in 2016. Since 2019, the Government of Japan has provided GARDP with financial support as a contribution to global health initiatives.
Through its cost-effective partnership model, GARDP develops appropriate antibiotic treatments to be made available to the people who need them, in particular those in low- and middle-income countries. The heart of GARDP’s work are partnerships that go beyond the conventional boundaries of industry, government, and academia.
At this HGPI Salon, Mr. Yann introduced various initiatives, including examples of collaborations with companies, efforts to promote technology transfer of antimicrobial agents, challenges in multi-stakeholder cooperation, and types of partnerships necessary for healthcare policies, including infectious disease control. After that, Dr. Seamus O’Brien, R&D Director, GARDP, joined the Q&A session to discuss the paths and difficulties in building effective global partnerships based on everyone’s extensive experience in establishing numerous global collaborations. This event was a great chance to provide an opportunity to deepen understanding of how partnerships should be built in Japan and around the world in the future.
* For individual supporting members only, links to this HGPI Salon’s materials and video recordings will be shared at a later date.
