[Event Report] HGPI-GCOA Joint Roundtable: Vaccine Policies Within the G20 Global Health Agenda (June 5, 2019)
date : 6/24/2019
Tags: Global Health, Vaccinations
Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) and Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA) conducted a Joint Roundtable meeting to discuss Adult Vaccine Policies and their value for healthy ageing, preparations for the Decade of Healthy Ageing, and prevention strategies. Adult vaccine policy is a critical driver of prevention and sustainable healthcare systems, and such policies require cross-disciplinary, global collaborations.
With anti-vaccine sentiment growing around the world, there is now great need to strengthen multi-sector collaboration on policies promoting vaccination. Vaccines are an important aspect of preventative medicine. They can help bolster the sustainability of universal health coverage systems by ensuring that populations remain healthy. Vaccines for adults can prevent infectious diseases that disproportionally impact the health older people, thereby encouraging healthy aging. Vaccines also help to strengthen global health security by preventing the spread of infectious diseases between populations. For these reasons, we believe that the G20 should recognize vaccine-for-all policies as a key element of the 21st-century global health agenda.
To that end, we invited experts from various sectors to share their insights on moving vaccine policies forward and positioning vaccine policies within the global health agenda of the G20 and the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing.
