[Event Report] Inclusive Community Dialogue on Building an Inclusive Society for People with Dementia – Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture (June 28, 2025)

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) is currently engaging in various initiatives to support the promotion of dementia policies in local governments. For this event, we hosted a community dialogue to consider dementia care pathways with local residents in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

The Basic Act on Dementia to Promote an Inclusive Society (Basic Act on Dementia), which came into effect in January 2024, calls for people living with dementia and their families to be actively involved in community development and policy formation. Moving forward, local governments are expected to formulate and promote dementia policies that reflect and encourage the voices of diverse community residents, including people living with dementia.

By helping local residents deepen their understanding of dementia and introducing them to the “new perception of dementia,” this community discussion provided participants with an opportunity to recognize the immediate relevance of dementia. Another objective of the dialogue was to gather opinions on dementia care pathways from the viewpoints of citizens.
