Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Chairman Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa and HGPI CEO and Board Member Mr. Ryoji Noritake participated in the summary session of the 2nd Nikkei Super Active Ageing Society Conference, which was entitled, “The 2nd International Conference Aiming to Resolve the Issues of Ageing.” During the session, Dr. Kurokawa participated as a panelist and Mr. Noritake served as moderator.
During the discussion, Dr. Kurokawa said that the world is paying close attention to Japan, where population aging has advanced the most, and that means it is important to share information on the current circumstances surrounding population aging in Japan and efforts being made to respond to it. Dr. Kurokawa also pointed out the importance of having a clear division of roles between science and governance in times of emergency, such as during pandemics or after large-scale natural disasters, and that it is imperative for Japan to make improvements in that regard. Finally, to promote the future development of international society, Dr. Kurokawa stressed that it is urgent for Japan to produce the human resources needed to provide global leadership.
Mr. Noritake provided a summary of the lectures and panel discussions held that day. He also spoke on the importance of discussion, saying, “COVID-19 showed us Japan’s weaknesses. It is important to have discussions on the effective use of technology, including digital technology, and that generate short, medium, and long-term perspectives.” The ideal format for future conferences was also explored during the summary session.
