HGPI Manager Mr. Shunichiro Kurita contributed an article to the Nikkei entitled “Provide Mental Health Support for Children” that was published in the Personal Opinion and Insight column on September 29, 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for mental health support for children worldwide. However, education on mental health is not being provided in schools in a systematic manner. The current circumstances require overworked teachers and parents to take the first step and notice when children are facing issues related to health because it is difficult for children to realize when they are facing issues related to mental health themselves. In addition to improving mental health literacy among children, it is also essential for us to create frameworks that use ICT and outreach programs to provide children seamless mental health support during pandemics, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
