Measures for Disaster Recovery: Conference on the Future Form of Elderly Care

On the 29 October 2012, discussions were held between individuals involved in the recovery efforts in Yamada town, Iwate Prefecture, and the main members of the ‘Leading Aging Society Forum’ who are tackling recovery issues in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. At the conference, which was mediated by the Health and Global Policy Institute, opinions were exchanged on a range of topics including the activities of all parties to date and the current issues that pose a challenge.

Following the conference the parties then went on to participate in the ‘Ishinomaki Health and Lifestyle Recovery Forum’, which introduced a key example of a public-private partnership for the recovery of Ishinomaki and involved debate from both these areas on the future pathways for recovering the standards of living for people in the area. This served to further deepen understanding of the recovery support activities happening in Ishinomaki.

On the basis of these conferences and exchanges of information, both the party from Yamada town and the main members of the Leading Aging Society Forum confirmed the value of cooperating in undertaking measures for recovery, and resolved to go on exchanging information and holding conferences.
