“Challenges and Visions for Disaster Medical Care – Speaking from Experiences at the Disaster Headquarters in Iwate” 37th Breakfast Meeting

On May 24th 2012 (Thursday) the Health
and Global Policy Institute hosted its 37th Special Breakfast Meeting, at which
we were delighted to welcome Dr. Shinji Akitomi, Department of Critical Care
Medicine, Iwate Medical University, as the speaker. Dr. Akitomi talked about
his experiences of taking command at the newly-established disaster
headquarters in Iwate alongside members of the Disaster Prevention Office in
the period shortly following March 11th 2011, as well as the current state,
challenges and visions for disaster medical care ascertained during his
involvement thus far. After his presentation, people from the audience asked
questions, which conducted lively discussions. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Fred Gerber of Project HOPE delivered the closing remarks.
