date : 11/19/2010
HPIJ Chairman Kiyoshi Kurokawa spoke with Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, on her recent visit to Japan.
In addition to existing issues such as maternal & child health and infectious disease, a rapid and dramatic increase in emerging nations of chronic diseases such as cancer and stroke is expected to become an urgent problem in global health in the near future. With limited funding, and in the midst of social change and uncertainty brought about by economic gloom, dwindling birthrates, and aging populations, how can we safeguard and improve the health of all members of the global community? Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, spoke of the increasing importance of persistent effort by each one of the many stakeholders striving for solutions to global health issues. Thus, the activities of Health Policy Institute, Japan, in bringing together the experience and expertise of numerous stakeholders from government, industry and academia to the media and civil society, make an ongoing contribution to resolving issues in global health and healthcare.
