Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) has organized HGPI Salon for individual supporting members and those interested in health care policy from various fields.
On October 28, 2024, HGPI co-hosted a session with The Asia Group entitled “The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election’s Impact on Japan’s Healthcare Policies: Future Implications for U.S.-China Relations and U.S.-Japan Cooperation”. The lecture was delivered by Ambassar Kurt Tong, Managing Partner of The Asia Group and a former U.S. State Department diplomat with over 30 years of experience. At The Asia Group, he leads consulting teams focused on Japan, China, and Hong Kong, as well as East Asia regional policy matters.
At this HGPI Salon, Ambassador Tong gave a preview of the current state of the U.S. Elections, the U.S. presidential candidates’ policies that impact Asia, the BIOSECURE Act, as well as the influence of the U.S. elections’ outcome on existing U.S.-Japan ties. While the U.S.-Japan relationship remains stable at present, he also mentioned that political transitions both in the U.S. and in Japan will greatly shape its trajectory in the coming years. The lecture was followed by a Q & A session where the broader global and regional implications of the U.S. government’s policies were discussed, including its effects on Japan’s economic and healthcare landscape.
This event was an opportunity to examine how the impacts of the U.S. elections extend far beyond its borders, affecting nations and international relations, including Japan.
