[Event Report] Non-partisan Diet Member Briefing – 30-minute Health Policy Update #3: The Importance of Measures For Women’s Health As a Foundation For Empowering Women (March 17, 2021)
date : 4/12/2021
Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) held the third installment of “30-minute Health Policy Update,” a series of briefings for Diet Members about the most pressing health policy issues of today. The topic of the meeting was “The Importance of Measures For Women’s Health As a Foundation For Empowering Women.”
At the meeting, Professor Yutaka Osuga (Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Tokyo) gave a lecture on women’s health, a topic of critical importance within continued Government efforts to promote women’s empowerment. The lecture was followed by a lively opinion exchange session with many questions from attending Diet members.
■ Background
While society as a whole is making efforts to promote women’s empowerment, it is still not providing sufficient support to help women improve their own health and health literacy. In recognition of that fact, HGPI’s Women’s Health Project has been conducting surveys and formulating policy proposals starting in 2015. This briefing session was held to encourage both Diet members who have been involved in the field of health policy and those who focus on other fields to reexamine measures for women’s health. With that in mind, Professor Osuga spoke about the hormonal changes that women experience over the life course, how they can respond to those changes, and the importance of improving health literacy.
