[Japanese Version Release] “Call for Actionable Steps in Response to the Rising Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)” (July 3, 2024)

On July 3, 2024, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) and AMR Alliance Japan published Japanese translations of the “Call for Actionable Steps in Response to the Rising Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”.

The recommendations were developed by the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform ahead of the United Nations High-Level Meeting on AMR set to be held in September 2024. The recommendations call for UN member states to agree on 10 priorities for practical and measurable AMR control measures based on the One Health approach, which considers the interdependence of human health, animal health and the environment.

The importance of addressing AMR was highlighted at the 2016 United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR, and for nearly a decade since then, the international community has been working to curb the incidence and prevent the spread of AMR. However, the threat posed by AMR continues to increase due to factors such as the climate crisis, environmental degradation, pandemics and global conflicts. In this era of complex crises, the 2024 United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR is an excellent opportunity to reflect on past successes and lessons learned in order to develop better AMR countermeasures for the future. HGPI hopes that our recommendations will be shared with many stakeholders and contribute to knowledge about and implementation of AMR countermeasures in the next decade.

The Japanese translation of the recommendations was done by HGPI. The AMR Multi-stakeholder Partnership Platform has authorized HGPI to publish this translation. Please refer to the original text.
