Invitation to HGPI Special Breakfast Meeting (June 25,2019)
date : 5/16/2019
Thank you for your continued support of Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI).
It is our pleasure to invite you to a special breakfast meeting featuring Dr. Makoto Suematsu, President of Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), which has a managing function in drug discovery and medical device development in Japan.
As you know, AMED was established in April 2013 as a national control center for the development of new drugs and medical devices, in response to the expectation of Japan’s “National Institutes of Health (NIH)”. AMED covers various responsibilities such as to manage the budget for medical research and development among relevant ministries; consistently support a wide range of studies including basic and practical applications; support guidelines for more efficient operations; and ensure enabling environment to realize early utilization in the field. With the support from AMED, HGPI conducted a research project “Initiative for the Advancement of Dementia Research and Social System Innovation through Global Public Private Partnerships (PPP)” in FY 2016. The results of the study have been utilized in the current national dementia policy. The role of AMED is expected to grow as a hub of collaboration between industry, government, and academia in medical research and development.
To that end, Dr. Suematsu will share his insights with you regarding AMED’s current issues and future prospects, the visions for research and development of overall Japan’s science and technology, as well as the future of healthcare in Japan, based upon his expertise and experience. At the end of the meeting, he will discuss with you these relevant issues and perspectives as well. We would be most grateful if you could join us at this event, and very much look forward to welcoming you to the meeting.
Yours sincerely,
Kiyoshi Kurokawa
