A Draft Law of Addressing Alcohol-Related Health Problems Will be Submitted to the Extraordinary Diet Session

On October 24, 2013, the Federation of Diet Members for Alcohol Problem, which is formed by a group of nonpartisan diet members, led by the president, Mr. Gen Nakatani, the LDP Member of the House of Representatives, had held a general assembly and approved the “Draft Law of Addressing Alcohol-Related Health Problems”. The federation aims to submit the draft to the Diet to promote moderate alcohol consumption of people for health improvement.

HGPI has a main focus on the issues of alcohol related problems, which is one of the risk factors of NCDs (Noncommunicable Diseases), and had held several workshops in collaborating with the federation in the heat of the legislation movement. Current status and the challenges of alcohol-related problems, as well as the necessary policies were heavily discussed with the Diet members and local and overseas experts to address the problems.
