Kanagawa Prefecture, Kanagawa University of Human Services, and HGPI jointly convened the Kanagawa Prefecture Symposium “Health Innovation and Human Resource Development” at Kawasaki Solid Square Hall on October 27, 2018.

Welcoming Remarks
Kenji Shuto (Vice-Governor, Kanagawa Prefecture)
Mr. Shuto introduced Kanagawa Prefecture’s healthcare policy initiatives, and emphasized the importance of human resource development as well as promotion of innovation towards creation of a new era.
Explanation of Vision
Ryo Watanabe (Lecturer, Division of Establishment for Graduate School of Health Innovation, Kanagawa University of Human Service)
Mr. Watanabe highlighted the need for major reforms of social systems and the foundations of society itself to address the dramatic demographic shift due to the rapid aging of the population and the advance of globalization, and explained the importance of nurturing innovative health leaders and the role of the School of Health Innovation (SHI) .
Panel Discussion Session 1: “Environment around Heath Innovation and Role of Stakeholders”
The panelists introduced activities that they are engaged in, and shared their insights on the perspectives required to realize collaboration among stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and civil society. They also discussed necessary elements of human resources who initiate health innovation.

Panel Discussion Session 2:”Actions of School of Health Innovation for Social implementation”
Following introduction of the panelists’ own positions and activities, they reviewed the background history of the SHI that has been established bringing together diverse experts and organizations under the leadership of Kanagawa prefecture. They also discussed the expectations, prospects and visions for the SHI.

Honami Yoshida (Professor, Division of Establishment for Graduate School of Health Innovation, Kanagawa University of Human Services; Prospective faculty, SHI)
Mr. Tei and Ms. Yoshida clarified the purpose of the SHI, that is to foster the next generation leaders; to provide a central hub for health innovation; as well as to fulfill think tank functions as well. In order to realize this, a combination of various skills will be needed such as that for active learning; analysis and evaluation; problem-solving and planning; negotiation and communication; as well as business operation and organizational management skills. The SHI curriculum is prepared to allow participants to acquire these specific skills.
Closing Address
Yasuo Otani (Chairman (CEO), Division of Establishment for Graduate School of Health Innovation, Kanagawa University of Human Service)
Mr. Otani concluded the session by expressing his expectations for the promotion of health innovation that now goes beyond Kanagawa and is expanding across the country and to other Asian countries, in collaboration with Kanagawa Prefecture’s “ME-BYO” concept and the “Healthcare New Frontier” policies.
