On July 21, 2026, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) held the Health Policy Summit 2026, “Economic Security and the Future of the Healthcare System.”
In recent years, health policy has shifted from a largely domestic matter to an increasingly geoeconomic and geopolitical issue. Titled “Economic Security and the Future of the Healthcare System,” the Summit brought together stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and civil society to examine how policy should be designed in an era in which this shift has become a core structural factor in health policy. The roundtable discussion took up the Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) pricing policy, which grew out of U.S. tariff measures, and explored possible solutions for Japan to pursue. The key points raised on the day are organized under four headings in the report: supply, negotiation, public finance, and consensus-building.
This year, instead of a lecture format, the meeting adopted a roundtable layout in which the participants’ tables were arranged around the panelists seated in the center of the venue, enabling discussion on an equal footing.
