The Global Health Education Program (G-HEP) held its fifth lecture of the Global Health Academy on June 9th, welcoming the Chair and Representative Director of the Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund and Former Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hiroki Nakatani. The lecture focused on the theme Global Health in Post-COVID-19 Era—Architecture and People.
Dr. Nakatani explained the concept of global health and described how economic development around the world has led to improvements in health, but also brought new problems such as ageing populations. He pointed out that the spread of COVID-19, mainly in high-income countries, has exposed the inadequacies of previous infectious disease control measures, and that the spread of infectious diseases is changing the global health agenda. He also introduced the background, structure, and policy making process of the World Health Organization (WHO) and gave advice on how to build a career in the global health field.
