[Event Report] Global Health Education Program (G-HEP) 2021-2022—Global Health Academy Lecture 1: Thailand’s Health System and COVID-19 Response (February 10, 2021)

The Global Health Education Program (G-HEP) aimed at fostering the next generation of global health experts has officially begun and the first lecture was successfully held on 10 February 2021. G-HEP is a joint program organized by the Health and Global Policy Institute and Mahidol University, Faculty of Public Health in Thailand.
Over a period of about two years, 24 participants from five countries, who passed the selection process in Japan and Thailand, will learn from one another, conduct fieldwork research, and partake in policy advocacy based on this year’s theme, Solving Health Issues for COVID-19 and Urban Migration.
The first lecture began with an introduction to the program by G-HEP organizer, Eri Yoshimura (Senior Manager, HGPI), as well as congratulatory messages from Ryoji Noritake HGPI’s (Board Member, CEO/Secretary General) and Dean of Mahidol University Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Chanuantong Tanasugarn. The congratulatory messages were followed by an online lecture from Dr. Tanarak Plipat, Deputy Director General of the Department of Disease Control, on the theme, “Thailand’s Health System and COVID-19”. He explained how Thailand’s health system and lessons from past experiences have contributed to controlling the spread of COVID-19. The session successfully closed after several enthusiastic questions from the participants.
The Global Health Academy which consists of lectures and workshops will be held online twice a month until September 2021 to prepare the participants for the subsequent field work component.
