Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) has published the report of the online public symposium “Dementia Risk Reduction: How Society Should Face the Individualization of Risk” held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
As dementia risk becomes more connected to the individual, this symposium was held to provide an opportunity to consider how civil society should respond to the individualization of risk and what actions should be taken as a whole in order to build an inclusive society.
The symposium introduced ethical issues, the latest studies, and initiatives for dementia risk, including examples from overseas. We shared methods of approaching risks with society from the perspectives of industry, Government, academia, and civil society. In “dementia risk reduction, “we discussed who is it referring to when it says “those who want to (prevent dementia)” as specified in Article 21 of the Dementia Basic Act for Inclusive Society, and the significance of what is included in the Dementia Basic Act. We also deepen discussion on the need for and promotion of industry-academia/public-private collaboration, including how to utilize private sector technologies, products, and services in future dementia prevention efforts.
Based on the report of this symposium, we hope that the discussion on “dementia risk reduction” will be further deepened by domestic and international stakeholders.
