AMR Alliance Japan (Secretariat: Health and Global Policy Institute) supported the public lecture “Silent Pandemic and the Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): What We Can Do Before Antimicrobials and Antibiotics Stop Working” on Thursday, November 23, 2023. The lecture was hosted by the Yomiuri Shimbun and sponsored by the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA), with support by Cabinet Agency for Infectious Disease Crisis Management (CAICM).
In recent years AMR has been increasing due to inappropriate use of antibiotics. It is estimated that by 2025 up to 10 million people will die from AMR worldwide. The spread of AMR has been called a silent pandemic, and it is being addressed as an urgent global issue. It is important to deepen public understanding of AMR in order to tackle the disease on a country-wide basis. Therefore, a public lecture was held to increase understanding among the general public.
