Mitsunobu Kano

Professor Mitsunobu Kano graduated from the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine and gained clinical experience at St. Luke’s International Hospital and the University of Tokyo Hospital. After completing his postgraduate studies at the University of Tokyo, he was placed in charge of establishing a researcher training program at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine while conducting nanomedical research and development through a collaborative pharmaceutical-engineering initiative. He then led the establishment of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems at Okayama University, which integrates the humanities and sciences. As its Deputy Director, he advanced a university-wide initiative aiming to achieve the SDGs for which he was presented an award from the government. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the first Science and Technology Co-Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. At the Science Council of Japan, he led the establishment of the Young Academy and was appointed as Council Member from 2020. He currently serves in various roles including Member, Science and Technology Council, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT); Advisory Member, Science for Policy Advisory Committee, MEXT; Board Member, the Honda Foundation; Specially-Appointed Fellow, Center for Research and Development Strategy, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST CRDS); and Board Member, the Japan Society of Drug Delivery System.
