Thank you for your continued support and understanding of HGPI.
HGPI operates with financial support from foundations and companies as well as individual members both domestic and international. Your continued support enables HGPI to continue its activities as a non-profit, non-partisan think tank.
This year, we kicked off a new series of seminars called HGPI Seminar+(plus) for all individual members. HGPI Seminars +(plus) address various topics based on the specialties of individual HGPI staff using knowledge gained over the course of our projects. In addition to various themes in healthcare policy, we hope HGPI Seminars +(plus) will allow participants to learn more about HGPI and feel closer to our operations.
At the first HGPI Seminar+, Mr. Shunichiro Kurita (Manager, HGPI) shared information about the transition and the latest trends in dementia policy under the title of “Pick-up dementia policy.” At the second HGPI Seminar+, Ms. Yuko Imamura (Manager, HGPI) shared about the current policies surrounding and education system for Women’s Health in Japan and interactively deepen the discussion on this topic with everyone in attendance.
On Thursday, September 10, 2020, we will hold the third HGPI Seminar+. At this seminar, Mr. Matt McEnany (Senior Manager, HGPI) will discuss the way that political rhetoric in the United States has changed, particularly under the Trump administration, and how that change has impacted the US response to novel coronavirus and other health issues, under the title of “Unhealthy Debate: America’s Experience with the Breakdown of the Public Sphere, and the Coronavirus Disaster.” Why have the Democrats refused to endorse Medicare for All in the midst of a global pandemic despite broad support from Democratic voters? Why do so many Americans resist requests to wear masks or social distance? Examining these and other questions, this presentation will explore how certain political and rhetorical strategies have hindered the advancement of health policy in the United States. The experience of the United States highlights the vital importance of healthy debate and a robust public sphere to the advancement of good policy.
We would like these seminars to generate interest in healthcare policy and allow us to connect with all supporting members who are active in various fields. Together, we will enhance HGPI’s ability to function as a hub that brings a policy community together to work towards helping citizens shape health policy.
*This seminar will be held in English
