Ms. Orie Yamashita is a graduate of the Keio University Faculty of Business and Commerce. As a person living with psoriatic disease, she has accumulated firsthand experience with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) over the course of her patient journey that began in her teenage years. While she was working at a Japanese medical device manufacturer, she joined a patient support group and began taking part in peer support activities. She later became a founding member of a patient advocacy organization that works to raise awareness for psoriatic disease. Over the course of her advocacy activities in Japan and overseas, Ms. Yamashita developed an interest in achieving patient- and citizen-centered health policy. That interest led her to Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI), which she joined in January 2023. At HGPI, she is currently involved in projects related to dementia, NCDs, and support for patients and other affected parties.
